Easter Lillies

Since today is Easter Sunday, instead of the "Sunday reads for the day," I decided to post pictures of a variety of lillies.

Most of the pictures were taken during a summer trip to Maine on one of those August days where the temperature in Nashville is near 100, but in Maine, it's about 65!  Some of the pictures are day lillies--others are Asiatic lillies.

I love the color combinations and the fact that some of the lillies are scattered among other shrubs and plants.

The thing I like about lillies is that they are pretty easy to grow.  Plant the bulbs in the fall and then watch them bloom throughout the summer!

With little care (dividing in the fall; pulling off dead shoots and leaves), they will return in full color year after year.

American Beauty Day Lillies / Variety: Frankly Scarlet (really, this is the name).

I purchased a small pot of these from Home Depot and planted them on either side of my front door about two years ago.  The actual flowers are over sized and range from about 8-9" for each bloom.  This picture was taken last year on 4th of July.  The leaves are already about 12" now, but, they won't bloom until mid-June.

Happy Easter!
