...woodworking 101!

When we built our house we wanted a custom banister, however, the builder and contractor told us that it "couldn't be done!"

I don't have a picture of the original, but the original banister looked something like this one.

but...the banister in the model home that was similar to our floor plan looked like this one--very bungalow-inspired, don't you think?

The banister is in the front hallway and is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door.  I couldn't stand the "traditional banister" with the think white posts!  ...and so, my journey for a substantial banister began!

We contacted Andy and Jeff (from the gazebo).  Andy wasn't able to work on the banister, but Jeff took on the job.

Original posts were removed and replaced with oak posts and a newel that was more substantive.

Overlook into the family room from the second family room above.

White posts replaced with oak posts and newel (before staining)

Stained with "honey" finish to match steps and floors

...and the finished banister...SO much better and worthy of a bungalow!

...out to enjoy the sunshine!
